Kiwi Basecamp
After People Leave, They Always Come Back!
After People Leave, They Always Come Back!
About three months into my road trip across New Zealand, I happened upon a hostel in Christchurch. It was one of the smallest hostels I had stayed in up to that point. The lower amount of guests allowed for a higher inclusion amongst the people there.
Kiwi Basecamp was the perfect place to meet people who traveled the country and those who had just arrived.
When the COVID-19 hit New Zealand and the country went into lockdown, I grabbed my camera and went to work shooting the new friends I was confined with.
To this day, Kiwi Basecamp continues to be my favorite hostel I’ve stayed in. Each day, bread was baked daily. During the New Zealand lockdown, we threw hostel parties for those who had birthdays, we had quiz nights to entertain ourselves, and we creative ones spent time catching up on projects.
Yet it wasn’t the parties and free food which stole my heart. It was the community, the people from all over the world who were all together in this hostel. They are the ones in these pictures. The ones that made a lockdown, more enjoyable than it would have been alone.
